Europe puts together
The wars in Europe in the last century - the first and second world war
- led the Western countries in Europe to realize that a military and
economic alliance further violent conflicts can prevent. Thus started a
process, which is the basis for today's European Union (EU) represents.
The beginning of the Cold War played a large role here, and so included
not only the Western European states / victors, but also the young
Federal Republic of Germany was included in the new community
incorporated.

Today the EU consists of 27 countries, includes some 500 million
inhabitants and the EU generates the largest gross domestic product in
the world. The EU Europe grows together, the borders within the
continent through various agreements are relaxed (and non-EU countries
on), people define themselves as "Europeans" and the common economic
strength in globalization plays a major role.
